COMBATTING CLIMATE CHANGE

Project No. 2114.1 - Ice Memory: Heritage Library of Ice Core Samples

Glaciers are valuable indicators of current and future environmental climate changes. Unfortunately, they are  diminishing due to climate warming and rising temperatures.

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation supports the Ice Memory Program which works to preserve unique information about past climate variations, environmental changes, and atmospheric composition. The SCA Group has decided to support their efforts and the expedition team.

OBJECTIVES

  • To enable the conservation and analysis of ice core samples threatened by climate warming
  • To establish long-term international collaboration to obtain samples from around the world

OUTCOMES

  • Five drilling operations were conducted in Switzerland, Tanzania, Nepal, China, and the Sub-Antarctic Islands.
  • Development of an ice core storage facility at the Concordia Station in Antarctica.
  • Creation of a management plan for the project for the next twenty years.

Launched in 2021 and set to conclude by 2025, this project underscores our commitment to addressing climate change. To inquire about this project and the efforts of an international team of glaciologists, visit www.fpa2.org.

Project no999 - Students on Ice

Young people worldwide should be educated about climate change and made aware of the importance of the polar regions. Each year, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, in partnership with the Monegasque Department of Education, organises awareness trips to the Arctic regions for students from across the globe.

OBJECTIVES

  • To promote education for sustainable development
  •  To raise young people’s awareness about the vulnerability of the polar regions.
  • To inspire young generations to become ambassadors and share their knowledge with others.

OUTCOMES

  • Over the last 10 years, 1,700 students were taken on a life-changing journey to the Arctic
  • Post-expedition, students are kept connected and can contribute to projects protecting the Arctic region

The SCA Group proudly supports this initiative, recognising the importance of educating youth on climate change and polar conservation. This support emphasises our commitment to corporate social responsibility and nurturing future environmental advocates. To learn more about this initiative, please visit www.fpa2.org.
