As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility initiative for 2025, SCA Group has made a donation to Beyond Plastic Med (BeMed), an organisation committed to reducing plastic pollution in the Mediterranean Sea – the most microplastic-polluted sea in the world.
The Mediterranean Sea is heavily polluted with plastic waste, with an estimated 730 tonnes entering its waters every day. This pollution poses serious threats to marine life, fragile ecosystems, and the region’s economy.
BeMed was launched in March 2015 during the international conference “Plastic in the Mediterranean: Beyond the observations, what are the solutions?” held in Monaco. The initiative was created under the leadership of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
BeMed focuses on implementing sustainable, local solutions to combat plastic pollution, raising public awareness, and promoting collaboration among governments, scientists, businesses, and civil society.
SCA Group’s contribution supports these ongoing efforts to protect marine biodiversity and safeguard public health from the long-term effects of plastic waste and microplastics.
